Overview

This hands-on session shows project managers how to build a single, executive-ready delivery dashboard in Power BI that unites the four domains leaders actually ask about - scope, schedule, cost, and resources - on one screen.

Working from a realistic program dataset, participants will model raw project data, compute earned-value metrics (CPI, SPI, forecast at completion) in DAX rather than reporting them by hand, and design a portfolio view that reconciles to the integrated master schedule as its source of truth. The session emphasizes accuracy, reconciliation, exception-surfacing, and the honest reading of what these metrics can - and cannot - tell you.

Why you should Attend

A delivery dashboard whose status and dates do not reconcile to the schedule of record damages your credibility faster than no dashboard at all. This session shows you how to build one that survives the steering-committee meeting.

Areas Covered in the Session

  • Project data sources: schedule systems, cost actuals, timesheets, scope registers, and change logs - and the integration realities of each
  • Modeling project data: workstreams, periods, milestones, deliverables, and a master-schedule control as a clean star schema
  • Earned-value measures built in Power BI: planned value, earned value, actual cost, CPI, SPI, cost and schedule variance
  • Forecasting to completion: estimate at completion (EAC), variance at completion (VAC), and reading them for leadership
  • Four-domain plan-vs-actual views across scope, schedule, cost, and resources on a single canvas
  • Executive dashboard design for PMOs and portfolio leaders: surfacing the exception, not the encyclopedia
  • Reconciliation, baseline integrity, refresh discipline, and the limits of earned value as a decision tool
