Overview

We tend to think of good decisions as a matter of clear thinking. But your body is part of the decision-making process, not just the vehicle carrying your brain around. Interoception - your ability to sense internal body signals like heart rate, breath, and muscle tension - shapes judgment, risk perception, and reaction speed well before you're consciously aware a decision is being made.

This session introduces interoceptive awareness as a practical, trainable skill for high-stakes environments. Drawing on predictive-brain science and autonomic nervous system regulation, participants will learn to recognize how their body is already "voting" on a decision, and how to use that information - rather than be hijacked by it - when the pressure is on.

Why you should Attend

Most decision-making training focuses on cognitive bias - the mind's blind spots. But by the time a bad decision reaches conscious awareness, your body has often already steered it. Under pressure, your nervous system is scanning for threat and signaling urgency long before your thinking brain catches up - and if you can't read those signals, you're making high-stakes calls on autopilot.

Leaders who miss this aren't just less effective; they're more likely to misjudge risk, escalate conflict, or freeze at exactly the wrong moment. This session gives you the missing half of the decision-making equation.

Areas Covered in the Session

  • Why the brain is a prediction machine, not a passive processor - and what that means for decision-making under stress
  • The difference between a body signal and a "gut feeling" - and why the distinction matters for accuracy
  • How interoceptive awareness shows up (or breaks down) in high-pressure moments
  • A simple framework for checking in with your body's signals in real time, without slowing down decision speed
  • The link between autonomic nervous system state and quality of judgment, risk-taking, and reaction time
  • Practical techniques to build interoceptive accuracy - usable in the moment, not just in a training room
  • How this applies to teams: reading your own state as a precursor to reading the room
